RH MultiFeeder is a company which was established in Norway in 2000 with more than 20 years of experience of its founders, developing and constructing feeding systems for the aquaculture industry. In one of their latest projects they used ComAp products to control and monitor the feeding system at a commercial Salmon farm.
Each salmon cage has about 100,000 fish at 4 kg each, there are seven cages on site at this time and they are feeding 20,000 kg of feed per day. Any day without feed will result in a big loss in growth to the fish. Having three main generators to cover breakdowns, all with automatic start stop, there should never be any days without feeding.
On this particular site there are three main Cummins generators at 145 kVA each for running the load from the feed system, using four InteliGen NT panels all with synchronizing. The feed system has 16 air compressors to blow the feed to the cages, they all have 11 kW motors plus the feed screw and sluice, this adds 3 kW more on each line.
There is a signal from the feed system to the ComAp controller 15 minutes before the feeding starts. This signal starts two of the main engines (the two with the lowest run hours). Then Power Management takes over, stopping one engine if load is low and automatically restarting it if the load gets higher. When the feeding is finished there is a small 45 kVA engine that is used for the accommodation load. This starts up automatically and synchronises with the main engines before they shutdown.
There is one InteliMains NT panel set in MCB operation to control the mains when the mains is connected. They have the I-LB+ for connection to the InteliMonitor software on the PC in the control room.
