In some cases, when building power stations, one of the important objectives is to provide for remote monitoring and efficient control of the generator plant. If it is required to monitor several generator plants at a time, as well as to display simultaneously a high number of measured values, the necessity arises to use a convenient monitoring system, making it possible to configure a display to show important information in an easy to read format.

OJSC South Power Utilities is Russia's largest power engineering company, specialising in the field of designing, manufacturing and delivery of complete equipment for thermal, nuclear, hydro and gas turbine power plants. OJSC recently installed an InteliVision 17Touch into their power plant in Kamchatka, in eastern Russia. The system is designed for control monitoring and control of a DGP Caterpillar generator 3512B-HD with a capacity of 1,280 kW.

SCADA designed for the system makes it possible to graphically display, using the InteliVision 17 Touch, the single-line scheme of the power circuit and the common bus of the switchgear 6.3 kV (with colour indication of voltage availability on the bus and the generator output), position of the generator circuit breaker, main electric parameters of the common bus and the generator, parameters of engine condition in the digital form and in the form of analogue pointers, and a generator load trend for the last hour of its operation.
